Poll: City Name
Just like when a baby is born, she needs to be named, we also need to name this new city. There are several possibilities that have historical significance, such as St. Thomas and St. Joseph. As you drive south into Nevada toward Moapa Valley from Southern Utah you drive through the city of St. George, Utah, and in the days of St. Thomas before its demise there existed a logical flow in the names of the two small communities. A person could say that now we have visited St. George, lets go down to the St. Thomas area. The continuity in using names combined with the word ‘Saint’ was also felt when traveling here to visit St. Joseph. Moapa is a name associated with a local Paiute tribe and this community has been referred to for years as ‘Moapa Valley’, which is also the name of the high school. There are also the current town names of Logandale and Overton, too.
The final analysis, is simply like putting on a coat to see how it fits. Imagine driving down I-15 and getting ready to exit into the valley. Do you want to see a sign that says, ‘Moapa Valley- Exit 1 mile’ or would you like the ring of ‘St. Thomas-Exit 1 mile’ or how about ‘St Joseph- Exit 1 mile’?
This is a simple opinion poll, not a scientific one.
